"The Coalescence" is the 1st in a series of archival and previously unreleased recordings by legendary NYC free-jazz group Owl Xounds/Exploding Galaxy. This 2007 recording contains previously unheard music from the same session that yielded their "Splintered Vision" LP which was issued on Blackest Rainbow Records. It is a great honour to have this album released by ESP-Disk' and we're extremely pleased to finally unleash this sonic madness to the world. The album will be pressed in a limited edition of 30 (thirty) LPs.
About the band:
Owl Xounds/Exploding Galaxy were an undeniable force in the early 2000s NYC underground free-jazz/improv scene. They were deeply influenced by and sonically indebted to the early wave of 1960's avant-garde jazz music from such legendary cult labels as ESP-Disk and BYG Actuel. Their intense and energetic performances/recordings would propel their fanbase far beyond the improv/jazz world and deep into the global noise/experimental freak scene.
Featuring the core members of Adam Kriney (drums) and Gene Janas (upright bass), they collaborated/performed/recorded with dozens of heavy hitter musicians during their active years including: Thurston Moore, Peter Evans, Mario Rechtern, Arringto De Dionyso, Darius Jones, Sam Kulik, Dave "Smoota" Smith, Shayna Dulberger, Gene Moore, Greg Vegas...
Their "Cow On Mushrooms" album was selected as one of the top Jazz/Improv records of the year by WIre Magazine in 2005, and they issued recordings on such well regarded underground labels as: Fuck It Tapes, Mad Monk, Colour Sounds Recordings, Blackest Rainbow, Arbor, Curor Recordings...
This download includes the bonus track "Translucent Neon Hexagram (Imagined)" which appeared on a split 7" with OS LOOSERS, released on the Release The Bats label RTB#39. This track appears to be an alternate mix/edit/arrangement of material from the "Coalescence" recordings. The version here is sourced from the vinyl 7" because a digital master could not be found. Bonus track does not appear on the Esp Disk release.
